FAQ

  • What does "Renai" mean?
    • Renai is Japanese for romance.
  • If I download the mediafire links, how do I rejoin them?
    • You'll need hjsplit. You'll find it here.
  • I have an idea for a drama for Renai to sub. Where should I post it?
    • You can post your ideas on our forum or you can send an e-mail to renaifs@gmx.com
    • What, exactly, is fansubbing?
      • Fansubbing the process of fans putting subtitles on videos. The fans who do this don't get paid, and usually do it for the love of the shows.
    • What is the difference between hardsubs  and softsubs?
      • Hardsubs are permanently on the video you watch. You don't need to do anything to add them, they are just there. With softsubs you will have to add the subs through the program you are watching it on. Also, most times softsubs come out quicker because there aren't special fonts or effects added to the subs.
    • Why does it take so long to sub a project?
      •  There is actually quite a process involved in adding subtitles to a show/movie. First we have to translate the show. (Imagine watching a TV show and listening to every line and having to write it down. And that's not even the translation part, lol) Then it goes to a timer who makes sure you see the correct lines when the correct people are talking. Next it goes to a spotter, who double checks any questions the translator had while translating.  The editor takes over next and makes sure the English sounds natural and things are grammatically correct. Then a typesetter comes and makes everything look nice on screen. They add the effects to any and all text you see. When they finish a QC person will look things over to make sure there are no mistakes before passing it on to the encoder. The encoder puts the subs onto the video and then it is ready for release. It's quite the process, and usually takes quite some time to complete it. Add into that the fact that most fansubbers have outside jobs and commitments and that they can only work on the subbing process during their free time. This is why you'll often see fan subbing groups looking for more help - more help = more/faster subs :)
    • How do I join the parts of the hard subbed videos together?
      • Good question! First of all you're going to need this program: HJ -Split
      • Got it all installed? Great! Next step is to download all those parts to the video you'd like to watch. Now, they need to all be saved in the same spot (ie: all on your desktop). I recommend creating a folder to download them all to. It just makes life a little easier :P
      • All downloaded? Ok, next you'll open HJ -Split.
        • Click the "join" button
        • Click the "input file" button
          • select the file that ends in .001 <- of those videos you downloaded
        • Click the "output" button
          • decide where you'd like to put the joined video :)
        • Click "start"
      • You'll now just let HJ -Split do the rest of the work! When it's done joining the files you'll have one big file that you can now watch! I hope that helped :D

        1. It depends on the length of the episode/movie and a person who's typesetting. For everyone it's different time.
