Hello all! We are excited to bring you a couple of announcements!

1- We are looking into subbing Hataraku Gon! It's a movie about a TV news reporter with a reputation for doing tear-jerking interviews. Left by her husband, she was forced to raise her two sons by herself. When she gets assigned to cover a case involving a single mother whose son disappears, she faces a conflict between her personal life and work. It stars Shinohara Ryoko as the female reporter. We are excited about possibly working on this movie, so watch here for more info about it!

2- We have decided to release soft-subs for episodes 1-2 of Biyo Shonen Celebrity (we are hard subbing episodes 3 on). However, like our other soft-subs they will be only available on the forums. So, if you're interested in watching the first 2 episodes keep watch over there. Just a reminder, to access any of our soft-subs on the forums you do have to have a minimum post count of 5.

As always, if you're interested in joining us to help with any of our projects, please feel free to apply!
Thanks for being great fans!

Hello again! I just wanted to announce our uploading plan on here, so that everyone knows what we have decided to do. We have chosen to use iFile for our drama and special releases. We are currently finishing up the transfer over to the new host, and you can find new links on most of our releases. Hopefully there will be no problems with anyone wanting to download from there. Feel free to let us know if there are, however. Thanks for your support!

As many of you know, megaupload was closed down last week. We used megaupload as a main source for our releases in the past. We are working on finding a new source for our uploads. We are looking at many different options and we will decide on one soon. Once the server is selected we will begin the process of uploading our files. This may and will take some time. (Plus I live in Washington and we were hit with a major storm = no power for the last 3 days) Please be patient with us. In the meantime, feel free to use the mediafire links as well as the torrents that we have released most of our work on. Thanks for your understanding!

Just a quick plug for our forum (here). We tend to release things on the forum first before we post links anywhere else. Plus you'll get to talk to us (the amazing staff :p ) and other fans of similar shows. So, if you want to be among the first to see one of our releases, or you just want to chat with other drama fans, this is your spot to be. We hope to see you around the forum!

I'm so glad to see the interest Ayumi's video has created. We found it because we plan on subbing Dandy Daddy? and this song was the theme. It's a fun and catchy tune. :)
My reason for posting is that it has come to our attention that the video quality on this MV wasn't the best. This was my fault. We did have a great video to work with (thanks Thomas) and it was our intent to post the subs with that. However, I am the one who encoded the video. We are a new FS group and I thought I should learn more parts of the process. I decided to try my hand at encoding. When I encoded the MV I found that the quality went down. (I don't encode our episodes for this reason) I don't really know why (as I said, I'm teaching myself...perhaps a setting?) but I figured it was just a MV so it wasn't that big of a deal. I've often felt that doing MVs/PVs are a good learning ground. Anyway, another group saw our MV and didn't approve of the quality. I'm happy we were able to introduce to them the song. They enjoyed it so much that they released their own higher quality version. (I'll link to it here, encase anyone is interested in it)
I just wanted to post here to just remind our fans that we are a new group. I believe you do fansubbing for the love. While quality is important (our series releases will be better, I promise) I just ask for your patience. If you see something of ours that has the logo too big, or the quality isn't the best, please bare with us. I love constructive criticism. It pushes us to do better. If you have suggestions, send them my way. I'm always happy to hear how we can improve (renaifs@gmx.com). I'm looking into having someone else encode that MV for us, so it can be a higher quality. If you'd like to see the other subbing group's version, here is the link: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=download&tid=254685  It was done by HaroRangers and Saigoyume :) I will try to post our new version when we have it.

I know some people may be new to the fansub world, so I thought I'd post a quick guide so people could know who does what. :)

* Translate
* Time
* Spot
* Edit
* QC
* Typeset / KFX
* Encode
* Release

Translate
Self explanatory. Translating the movie from the source language (ex: Japanese ) to the target language (English). It is alright if the translator doesn't know everything. If he/she is uncertain of the translation of certain phrases, just put an asterisk (*) behind them to notify the spotter.

Spot
This person has a similar job to the translator, and are mostly the second set of eyes/ears. They check the translation to ensure accuracy as well as look at the asterisk marked lines to help with translation.

Time
Putting the translated lines into the correct time in the movie. (So, if someone speaks there should be a subtitle on screen.)

Edit
Primarily fixing the polish of the target language (English). Since translator and spotter are typically non-native English speakers, they need help on their English. The sentences are typically full of typos, grammatical errors, and sentences that just seem to read wrong. Good editors must be meticulous in fixing these errors.

QC
Is the last line of ensuring correctness. QCer has to correct all errors. If the translator, timer, spotter, and editor all did a great job, doing a QC is a cinch. If not, doing a QC is almost redoing the entire episode.

Typeset / KFX
Is to ensure that the subs are pleasing and easy to read. Typesetters need to have a good sense of art. KFX is a typesetter for karaoke for opening / ending themes. KFXing is far more demanding than mere typesetting. They're considered as separate jobs since they're done by two different people. The nice part is that once the font / coloring / effects are set, they last for the entire series.

Encode
Is to "burn" the subtitle into the movie. Encoder has to ensure high quality results (both video and audio). The subtitle must be defect-free at this point. Or else, the encoder has to redo his/her job.

Releaser
is to put the finished products for distribution. Usually we put them in D-Addicts as torrents. Releaser is also typically responsible to seed the release.

Let me tell you a bit about ourselves and why I created this fansub group. I have been an avid Jdrama watcher for about 3 years now (I know, that's not that long) and I knew relatively little about the subbing world when I got into watching the shows. As I started watching more and more dramas I started wondering how I could help give back to those who provided the subs. I looked into it and ended up joining a small group as a WOS (words on screen) person. They were very very nice and super helpful. I learned a lot from working with them. I have expanded and now I am part of several fan subbing groups. This has shown me all sorts of dynamics and ways to get things done. There is a fun thrill to getting to work on new stuff and seeing your name on the credits that so many watch. However, as someone who works, I cannot commit myself to those very often. So, this is my solution. Renai fansubs was created for those of us who want to help the fan subbing world and perhaps don't know how, or have much time. We are committed to quality vs quantity of the fansubs we put out. I want to be known for our good subs and not for how quickly we produce work. Yes, this means that we will probably be passing on the new dramas (unless we get a group of people that has the time/commitment). I know, as a watcher myself, how frustrating it is to wait for the subs to a new drama you love watching so you can participate in the chatter about it. So, we will most likely be subbing the older dramas. If you have any suggestions for us, feel free to shoot us an e-mail. If you're looking for a faster paced group, I suggest looking at my list of other subbing groups. They are the groups I've worked with or those that I think put out great subs. I look forward to helping the subbing world grow, and expanding the available subs for those just joining the world of Asian dramas. <3
